Egg production has finally picked up in ND. For almost two months i didnt get one single egg.

I only have 7 hens - but I was getting 3-5 all through Dec & Jan, then for Feb, I'm lucky if I get 2-3 per day. Friday, I got -0- and yesterday I got 1 - what's up.....the weather is nicer & the days are longer! I am in NC - close to the SC border.

I also feel your pain, we have around 45-50 hens between 9 months and 2 and a half years.
In the last two weeks we have gotten 2 eggs. TOTAL!!! What is worse is that I plugged in my incubator and have nothing to put in there! GRRRRRR LAY PLEASE LAY!!!

generally speaking from my experience, if you get chicks in the spring and they begin laying in the late summer early fall they will lay consistanly all the time ( with exceptions here and there ) until their second winter when they will usually go through an intense molt....i just had a group of girls do this and i didnt get an egg for a little over 2 months - hope you dont have to wait that long but now they are laying out the wazoo

Yep, and that's why you let a hen set on a clutch at odd times around the year, always keep a few hatched at different times of the year, and I like several different breeds too myself, but that part's just me. It's really the different hatch dates that matter the most.

I was thinking the same thing of mine!
Our 3 girls from last year started to molt this fall and went from an egg a day, each, to only one or two eggs daily from all three. At the same time, this years flock started to lay. Slowly. So I was getting about 3 to 8 eggs daily all through winter from our 16 hens. But just recently the numbers went down. I thought maybe because of the snow being gone, they are back out in the woods and hiding eggs out there. But they were all barn bound today with sleet and rain. We got only 3 eggs total.
I have two EE's that I got as adults and are over two years old. We get one green egg every couple of days. I don't know which is laying, or if they are talking turns. But they went on strike a month or so ago and I didn't see a green egg til just the other day!

i have 30 1 year old pullets last month i got about 2 eggs if i was lucky but now that the weather has gotten a little better i been getting about 16 or so.........the year before that tho i had 45 3year old chickens adn n the winter months i went a few weeks without gettin a any eggs...........they problee just need a break hopefully
