Over excited/ impatient due to hatch 28th May

They're muscovy ducks. The end result is 5 ducks and 3 pheasants. So not a big batch this time. I like the color assortment in the ducks though, think one might be lavender.

Only 2nd time I've had pheasant chicks. They crack me up with their ridiculously disproportionate legs. They're on stilts! :lau

Haha I see what you mean about their legs
Adorable !!
Ambray - any luck with your chicks yet ?

I'm still on the trip but I'll be home in a day or two and my friend texted me that he hadn't seen anything so I told him to candel it and tell me if he saw veins, because I was told that if they died their veins retracted and you couldn't see them but on mine the vein have thinned which I assumed meant they were preparing to hatch. Please tell me if I'm wrong I'd like to know what to expect.

Minni update- he just said it looked like day 21 so at least that's good news

Yes, you're right. Dead - uneven yellow band with no veins all around the air bubble. About to hatch - Huge air bubble, movement, almost completely black, veins thinning and retract.
Good to hear that it's not overdue on the days. Fingers crossed... :fl

Flight was delayed an hour and I'm waiting Impatiently until I get home to my lil egg and candel it for myself.

Also thanks for informing me, and I'm glad my baby still has a chance I was starting to get worried because of how late It was. again thanks so much to everyone for wishing me luck and helping me understand what expect and I hope you all have good hatches too!

So I'm back and it actually look like it's grown a little... So that's good? Its also about on day 28, is that normal because it doesn't seem normal to me, also the veins retracted and there's almost no space then expect for a large tilted air bubble. I figured out why it might've taken a little longer. I had it on a paper towel on day 18 or 20 so if it hatched it wouldn't make a mess but when I felt the egg the side on the paper towel was colder than the other side. This raises another question, what's the chance it's deformed?

Also just wanted to add I don't see it moving in the egg even though it's grown...

Hey is it possible for you to send over a photo when you next candle the eggs ?
As I may be able to advise you a bit more after seeing it for myself
I’ve had a few born with wry neck which is easily cure able so don’t worry to much in advance
How many eggs are you waiting on hatching ?
Day 28 does seem a little late :-/

You're absolutely sure it's day 28? For a chicken egg, that's very late... If I were you, I'd take a sharp nail or needle and poke a tiny hole in the end of the air bubble. That way you can take a look at what's going on. It doesn't hurt the fetus, but I'm starting to think it might be dead. A dead-in-shell chick can swell, and that will look like it's growing. If it's alive, you can also assess if it's deformed and need help getting out.

Here I've made a hole to check on a duck egg with wrongly placed air bubble.
