Over EZ Nipple Waterer getting gross in days!

We got the Over EZ nipple waterer and it says to add some vinegar (with the mother) to it. It also claims to stay clean for weeks, but mine gets gross in about 5 days. I'm wasting water and vinegar because I have to dump and clean it every weekend and it's still mostly full. What am I doing wrong?

It appears to be in full sun. I would shade it and discontinue use of ACV. I would also expect some "slime" development. Can you post a pic of the inside when it's "gross". It may not really be gross.

There are mature trees shading it and tarps over the top of the run where it sits. I can go out there right now and take a pic. It got cold here today so I wasn't about to mess with water. North central Texas in April is NOT supposed to be in the 50s!

I live in Fort Worth ans I have one of these also. I have not started using it yet cause my babies are only 5 weeks old and are on lock down in the coop for training so I am very interested in what your “gross” is!

See? It has junk growing on the top. It's still clean at the bottom, it's all floating and it's nearly full still.

I think, and it's a guess, that that is from the ACV. The inside walls looked ok, but was in B&W. Maybe tomorrow, with better light, another pic?

It's actually in color. Lol. The waterer is grey and that junk is grey. I'm going to clean it after church tomorrow and stop using the vinegar and see what happens. Thanks a bunch!!

I had the exact same thought. It looks like scum from the ACV.
I would try a week or two without the vinegar.

Well, the entire weekend was cold and it rained all day yesterday. So now I have to clean it when I get home, after work today. UGH. This weather is just stupid. I'll keep an eye on it after I clean it and let y'all know if it stays clean longer if I stop using the vinegar.
