You need to be VERY VERY careful when doing this; I had a severely crossbeaked pullet that I would take to the vet every 6 weeks for a Dremel treatment...after drilling it down, the vet would cauterize the end of the beak becase there are tons of vessels in there. Once, she apparently didn't do a thorough cauterization and I almost lost the pullet due to bleeding to death! Got her home and the inside of the crate was covered in blood...she had apparenlty scraped it on the side of the dog crate and broke it back open or something..she was weak, but I got the bleeding stopped and she recovered. But, you can't just lop it off! It's like a dog toenail - it has a quick inside with lots of blood vessels. You hit one, and you'll need to put styptic powder or something else on it QUICKLY. Just be careful - and good luck!
