Overweight Turkey

I've had my turkey since he was a baby and he's grown up to be very sweet, but now he's really overweight and I've read that that can kill turkeys. He's about a year and a half old and I was wondering how I could get him to lose weight, so if anyone has any tips please let me know.

Exercise if he's imprinted on you take him for walks. It'll be fun and it'll get him moving. My wife and I take our turkeys for walks they really seem to enjoy it and we enjoy watching them chase bugs.

Then sorry to say but try feeding him less, they are like us in that their bodies will feed on itself just make sure you feed him plenty of fats to maintain brain function. I don't know what else to suggest my bird follows me all over the place so I don't worry about that too much

Heartsfromiron, do you know what breed of turkey you have? Potentially you have a broad breastfed variety.
