overwintering?

our quails are over-wintering outside in a shelter, how do we keep their water from freezing?

we also have chicks that hatched in early august, could they over-winter outside?

we have other birds that will be living in tote boxes with hardware cloth on the top (for ventilation) in the shelter beside the pen, will they need a heat lamp?

I'm not sure about the early August chicks. People say they need to be MATURE to withstand low temperatures. I guess it depends how quickly your temperatures drop. But if you keep them in the shelter with a heat lamp and then gradually wean them off the heat lamp, they should be fine.

the chicks are full grown now they should probably be fine over the winter :)
