Oxine, anyone?

My thoughts exactly and it does smell just like a mild bleach. The one thing I do like is the fact it doesn't leave your hands smelling bleachy. And, as far as I can tell, doesn't 'bleach' my clothes. But, at 30.00/gal as opposed to 4.00/gallon...I'm thinking of going back to just plain old bleach! Maybe keep a gallon of oxine on hand to spray the birds and the coop daily...

After reading the article it sounds like I can use it diluted in a spray bottle to simply spray around the coop w/out removing anything. Correct??

Well, you could, but the disinfectant wouldn't be as effective in the presence of organic matter like chicken droppings. For best disinfection, clean up the droppings as described in the Oxine instructions:

I only use Oxine to mist down the birds and in their water once in a while. Otherwise I use bleach solution to clean bowls/feeders/incubators/etc.

Thanks! That was my thinking also

I'm brand new to BYC and brand new to using oxine as well. I just purchased my first gal to get rid of mold in my coop, disinfect it, and to use in a humidifier for a respiratory disease that my birds have. I have the same question as another poster...the mold seems to have not only come back, but has spread to other places in my coop! Why would that be?

I mixed 2 TBS oxine in a quart sprayer.

Yes! Just don't use the activator, that will lead to a noxious fume cloud. We just mix our 6.5 oz per gallon of water and spray. Awesome disinfectant. Let me back up, I just reread your question...don't know how it would actually do to "clean"...but after you've cleaned...spray Oxine on all your surfaces to disinfect everything...

PLEASE, I need to treat my hens for fungal respiratory infection. Also, want to use it to disenfect EVERYTHING ASAP!

Very confused about what the "activation" is all about. Please explain all. I want to get some

Thank you.

Thank you.

The activator comes in a separate packet and one would need to mix it. Do "not" add the activator when using Oxine around your birds.
