Oxine as effective disinfectant?

As for what I use to sanitize;
I usually use WATERED DOWN bleach (VERY important to dilute it a bit, maybe a 50/50 mix of water and bleach) and scrub everything down pretty good. After it’s rinsed and dried, I go over it with pine-sol, rinse, and done! :)

In all seriousness, you could also torch it with a weed killer torch. Just toast all the cracks and crevices like people do for mite infestations. Not enough to scorch the wood, but enough to kill and bad stuff. Both the heat and the drying usually is good for deactivating or killing viruses and bacteria.

Or a handheld butane/brazing torch. The kind that screws onto a small canister.

So huge BBQ sized propane torch, or small handheld.

Tractors is also made of metal, plastic and rubber.

Hmmmmmm, then that torch idea is bad. I would wonder how the suggested liquids might interact with rubber. They are all ok for plastic (I don't think bleach interacts with plastic, does it?), and chlorhexidine comes in a normal plastic jug. Oxine as well I assume.

There are commercial products available for disinfecting chicken coops, etc. I can send some suggestions, but being in Ireland, chances are you may not have them available to you, so it won't help... Here are some more threads on the topic where you may get some tips:

A good disinfectant and cleaner is dawn dish soap, vinegar, and about a week of sunshine on the just cleaned item.
Dawn helps degrease and lift the nasties. Vinegar provides a harsher pH for germs...actually wood has it's own antibiotic properties...so if it's made of wood bonus. Apple cider vinegar has wholesome bacteria that can also put a compete on more harmful bacteria if present. And Sunshine will 'bleach' the crap out of it.

I've heard of this Oxine, but have not personally tried it. No cause to yet.

To continue muddying the waters, I can tell you from the "homebrewing" world that products like StarSan will do a very good job killing quite a few things, and are actually food grade. When you homebrew your own beer, wine, cider, etc..., you have to be meticulous about sanitizing your fermentation vessels and tools to avoid contamination. Might be something to look into. Cheap to buy StarSan concentrate. If you read the homebrewing forums, you will find people use it for all sorts of stuff around the house.

Get Virkon...it kills Marek's.
Not sure that Oxine does.
