Oyster Shells/ Shellfish free feed

I am in the pre-hen prep phase. It occurred to me that most calcium in chicken feed and the calcium to add is oyster shell, but I have a severe shellfish allergy.

Allergen wise- oyster shell is iffy on if I will react however I avoid it in my food and dogs food.

Is there an option to avoid oyster shell?

You can use the shells of an egg and put them in the oven to dry them out and smash them up.

My old feed store used to carry limestone chips for chickens.

I don't buy oyster shell.
I just feed a layer feed that has enough calcium in it.

I think OP was noting that the source of calcium in feeds is oyster shell. Could be mistaken, though.

The only Layers feed I have seen with Oyster Shells is Purina Layena.
I've used Nutrena Naturewise Hearty Hen and Feather Fixer. Neither one had Oyster Shells. Both use Calcium Carbonate.
I haven't used either one for over a year. So check the tag when at the store. GC

My feed has calcium carbonate as the source of calcium.
