Also, LOL..my girls decided today to eat the shell..lol..i actually mixed it in their food..and they ate it...so, that may be what i have to do from now on...because last night i got my very first soft shelled egg!..it was really gross feeling..

..my husband came in all freaked out...cause he went to pick it up out of the nest box, and it was all squishy feeling in his hand...i dont know which one laid it..and i dont know how much to worry about it...all the other eggs have been very hard shelled...i wonder if it a normal thing that sometimes happens?...

redhen, I have heard about the soft shelled eggs but we have never had them! We did have a wrinkly egg once though, looked almost like an old balloon that was once filled up but then deflates over time.... Our girl's eggs are so hard that we have to whack em twice on the cutting board before they crack open!

Most people bake the egg shells then crush them and then feed them back to the chickens. You certainly don't want them to recognize what they are eating or that could lead to egg eating.​
