Hi!
I just found this group via googling a question about how I picked off what I thought was dried poop on one of our 3 day old chicks...after finding the thread on BYC - I've learned I picked off the equivalent of the scabbed umbilical cord! It looks now like there's a bit of a hernia - we separated her from the other three for now - as I didn't want them to pick at it. Hoping she'll be okay.
We (husband, 5 year old, and 2.5 year old) are somewhat new to raising chickens. It's a first for the kids - but both my husband and I have had chickens in the past. We have two dogs - a dachshund (aka land shark) and a German wire-haired pointer. Not exactly the friendliest dogs towards chickens - but we have created a safe place and will have a routine for the chickens to remain safe and happy.
I am looking forward to learning all I can from you folks!
