Pacific Northwest Gamebirds

Coturnix can take really low temps but has to have a gradual decline so not to cold shock them.
They also need to have a place that is wind/rain proof.
In the winter I pile them all into one large pen that is covered with a tarp and has straw bedding on 1/4 of the wire floor.
In the spring-early fall I have them in my breeder cages which is solid on 3 sides and roofed. *shelter with individual cages on shelving... Guess I should take pictures this spring

I may end up moving them inside tomorrow. It's really cold out there now. I lost one of my precious little birds a couple weeks ago when the cold hit the first time....

Hi I'm in Oregon. I'm looking to get started with a few quail. It sounds like the Coturnix are the easiest to start. Is anyone selling hatching eggs at this time of year or will I have to wait to spring? There are many varieties of coturnix, right? Are they just color variations?

Thanks!

I don't want to step on any ones toes that are have eggs to sale but I would be glad to send you a few if you cover shipping. I have never shipped these so half of the deal would be to let me know how everything goes even any mistakes that you might make.

I'm checking my winter fertility right now but I have eggs

If you able to goto Eugene airport I could send some chicks down that are 3 weeks old if you want to start with some live birds.

It's small, but I'm really excited about my flock of 6 birds right now. My boyfriend wants to wait till spring to hatch anything; makes sense seeing as how we're out of town December 20-30th.. Right now my male is an English White and the females are two English Whites, a Jumbo Brown, a Rosetta (Tuxedo split) and a Tibetan (Tuxedo split).

Is saying something is "split to Tuxedo" or "Tuxedo split" correct? The Rosetta pullet and Tibetan were both hatched with Tuxedo like markings and now both are entirely their respectable coloration aside from white facial markings which make a sort of X-pattern (on the Tibetan) and white feathers (on both the Tibetan and Rosetta). Would they be considered partially expressed/incomplete tuxedos?

Where are you located in Oregon?

I normally call them pied but that may not be the correct term. For me any bird with white is Pied.. any bird with the classic tux is a tux

That sounds like a great mix! now you need a Golden

btw Rosetta is a range and Tibetan is a dark range..

Sorry I just caught that part. I wouldn't want you to wast the money on shipping. You would have to have them guaranteed next day in the morning in a cooler to keep them from freezing.

If we had a short break in the weather there might be a chance.
