Pacific Northwest Poultry Association double show, Salem, OR Oct 13-14, 2012

I saw some metal chickens somewhere but now I can't find the post! Can anyone tell me who sells them? Also, if I want to get five of them at the show on Saturday should I pre order because, aside from a Lavender Orpington, a Maran and another Wellsummer, I can't think of anything that my hot mess of a yard need more right now that a parade of metal chicks.

It's Chicken Rustler. You won't be able to miss him and his metal work, he'll be right near the entrance, you'll have to walk right by him to come and go. :) He usually has plenty of the little metal chicks...

I second what cloverleaf said. Renting the space to hold this show was expensive, and sale cages are a way of helping to cover costs and support the show, without which we wouldn't be able to bring birds to sell. I rented a sale area... because I knew a couple sale cages may not cover it.

We have to respect the club, they go to a lot of expense, time, and effort to put on these events.

That would be Chicken Rustler! Or should I say Iron Imagery, his business name. He will be at the show selling his wares. I am sure he will also see your post. I have a few of those running around my place!

They are so cute!

Thanks to both of you for responding... I think I am going to have to bring plenty of cash!

I was planning to buying at least one hen but I am getting worried about bringing problems into my healthy flock. I do have a small "quarantine" coop, but how long would I have to keep a new hen separate from the flock? I know that it's impossible to 100% guarantee a chickens health or temperament but is it reasonable to assume that a hen (selling for 25-35 dollars) will not have worms or mites?

No, you'd be surprised at what some people will sell. Quarantining anything you get for 30 days is the standard rule of thumb. But you can also ask around about sellers and see if anyone has any opinions...

Frontline? I am thinking this would treat mites?

Can it be either the dog or cat formula? And to you spot on the neck or close to the tail?

I am suspecting that chickens EAT fleas, since even though this is the worse flea season I can remember once we started to free range we didn't seem to have fleas (or any other insects) in the yard, but do chicken get fleas?

I believe you would be talking about these!!!

I will have about 25+ with me. I will also have several other chicken items with me. Colors will vary. Also I guarantee all of these birds to be disease free, There is no need to quarntine and they will all blend well into any flock.

Also keep in mind that while you may save a few $ by not having more cages. You also have less opportunity to sell. See most people are visual and if it is right there and catches thier eye good but if they have to stop and read a list nope not gonna happen.

I hope you do well with sales and hope you understand that the sale area is benefit to all who choose to participate in it as it is intended to function. It allows sellers an opportunity to market (hopefully) Quality birds, gives buyers an opportunity to buy some nice birds and helps the club to cover the cost of the show.

I've never seen Jap chicks there, Silkies yes....  :)

Well, then I guess I'm sticking with Silkies and Polish Frizzles. The sale area will be open tomorrow, right?

Also, do you guys recommend washing a bird tonight vs. tomorrow morning? I always wash my Frizzle right before the show because I blow dry her, but I'm debating how long it will take for a Bantam Wyandotte to dry.
