I am getting quail so I can offer their eggs as an alternative to my chicken eggs. I dont think they will sell for much in my area so I am trying to think outside the box to lower packaging costs. Has anyone used confection boxes (ie: truffle or petitefours) to package Coturnix eggs? I have no idea what dimensions would work well. The quail cartons seem to run around 30 -75 cents each which will cut heavily into my profit!

I don't know where you are, but check your state's regulations. In California, the container must be "clean" (not used before) and an egg handler's license is required. In the Quail Hatchalong, we were talking about various types of containers and plastic cups with lids came up as a possible alternative. We haven't tested how well they travel in those yet, though.

Thanks, that is an idea:). I am in SD and we also have to use new containers when selling under a state seller's license. I was thinking of buying boxes in bulk from a bakery/confectionary supply store. I don't know what dimensions I would need so I haven't been able to really price them out. I have no idea what size a typical quail egg measures, in inches, to guestimate what size box would hold a dozen, etc.

I don't sell eggs but I keep my eggs in my old blueberry containers, it fits 12 eggs almost perfectly.
