Paddock System in Permanent Run?

Once my main run was stripped of grass I went to deep litter as well - aged wood chips, grass clippings, and fall leaves. Gives the chickens something to dig through and helps with the drainage as well. We've had rain for 3 to 4 days at a time so far this fall and the run isn't mushy or muddy.

WOW, That's LOT of netting!
Love the 'Tposts'.
I can see where most the snow would go thru,
must be a bear to clear it if it starts to stick.

Duluthralphie these pics are great! Do you ever get any predators trying to breach through the top (such as climbers...racoons etc?). There are a lot of trees around our run and I am nervous that if I just do netting on top that I will have some uninvited visitors "dropping" in. Almost wondering if we should do 2X4 welded wire but it is more costly so if I can get by with just netting that is obviously much preferred!

I have never had a raccoon or predator enter from the top. Now I could be jinxed, because I said it.
:fl That you don't get jinxed.

I used to have just bird netting over my run. I knew/expected that raccoons could rip a hole in it and get in to my birds.

But they never did until it eventually got a hole in it, probably from turkeys landing on it. Then a raccoon started coming in that hole and got one of my birds. I repaired that hole, and no more raccoon attacks.

I think the raccoons here must not be very motivated, if they don't want to bother tearing bird netting. (Now I'm the one whose probably jinxing myself.)

Well anyway, after a few years, the turkeys made many holes in that netting. I finally just tore it off, and now my run is uncovered.
