paint inside of coop?

art, you should have listed that you don't like to paint as your first con..
the rest of them are like adjectives to it.
I agree, it is not necessary.
expensive ? if the coop is worth painting, then you have hundreds of dollars into it already.. why not spend the gallon of paint to preserve your work ?
it takes less than a day to paint ..
many people waste more time than that just watching their chickens poke around.

We are going to renovate an old shed into a bigger coop for our chickens before winter. My plan is to paint the new interior walls after we insulate between the existing outside walls and the new interior walls. I have borrowed my dad’s paint sprayer so it won’t take long. Will probably use the leftover paint from the outside of painting the sheds we need to paint before winter.

I want to paint because I want it to be easier to clean. I will probably put vinyl down on the floor too so that it is easier to clean. I am all about ease of use/cleaning!

I don't care for vinyl flooring. it is slicker than ice if it gets wet or if you step on something hard , like a chip of wood.
just be careful.

Why are you insulating? Not really necessary for chickens, they stay warm with their feathers. Good ventilation is more important to prevent frostbite.

Oh, and yes, i always paint wood inside and outside the coop because the humidity grows mold on it otherwise. Nasty! Exterior latex.

my main coop is insulated.
our winters easily get to -20 F .
If we want eggs, our chances are much better if the chickens don't have to use their feed to keep their body warm and can direct it toward laying eggs.
I have never had a case of frost bitten combs or feet..
yes, chickens do have enough feathers to keep themselves warm, If they sit on the roost and don't move around too much.
I would rather see my chickens walking around contentedly on the floor and waiting for me to feed them..

yes she does..
I painted the windows in my newest building with Kilz. I think that's what it was. It was left over from when I painted the bathroom.
covers in one coat and no primer needed..
It held up very nicely last winter and I don't expect any problems from it in my lifetime..

Kilz is a primer/sealer...unless they make a 'primerless paint' now. It's good stuff.

I have been wondering about this too. I am in the process of finishing up our coop and was thinking a light color would be good for the winter light situation. The only concern I have is if the chickens start picking at it? It can't be healthy right? Maybe I am being too cautious?
