Her sister disappear the second day out. Some never figure out the return to home thing. I found her last night, on the ground sitting next to the swing set, the night before she did roost up on the round pen. Don't think she is the sharpest chick in the carton! lol

He's been bugging me for a paint silkie since he saw a pic of one last fall. He walks up to me , shows me the pic and ask, " Mem,Can you make me one of these?"
I'm like no, I can make a lot of different colored silkies, but don't have the right one's here for that.

I can make this:

American paints are those that were bred in TN by Judy Lee, they are from a dominant (standard white) silkie with a Blue? Not sure exactly, but the story is posted on the beginning of the American thread by Judy.
Euro paints were imported Euro paint birds by Jerry Schexley (sorry spelling here) and when several generations from the first cross of a Leghorn x Silkie. They have a euro standard look, smaller crest, sometimes non-brearded, more active temperments etc. He has bred these together & crossed with standard color bearded silkies, ie black etc.
So those terms are for where the stock originated, TN aka American or Euro imports. Hope this helps!

The Euro paints are until now "trouble childeren", this for many reasons is maybe why they are still not officiallty recognized in Holland (the country where they where created).

Please explain? I think Any info that could be passed on would be helpful, possibly to stop some of the pitfalls from happening in the breeding programs in the U S!

Brody ~ Love that first roo! Is he a Salmon?? I also had to laugh at the Pigeon pic. Look at him looking at the roo behind him!

I not want to bring in discredit European paint breeders but you showed here in this post yet several little troubles (light toes, spread out legs, light eyes, bad wings, brassy glow ...) I not know how the US paints where made but in Europe they where bred very close to inbreed. It is correct the origine lays at a cross Leghorn (Dominant White) X Silkie (Dominant Black). The Dominant White takes over more and more the black spots (Paint should have a spotting pattern of large un-pigmented areas and normally pigmented patches (here black) the partitioning should be 2/3 white and 1/3 black, this alternating color pattern must be irregular and asymmetrical). The history is also a little related to the origine of the Exchequer Leghorns ! Maybe this can give a clue for their genetic make-up !
