Just know Dominant White "I/I" have mutations when falls out a "Blue" could be the mutation "Smokey" (I^s/I^s or I^s/i+) looks very similar to Blue (Bl/bl+) but is genetically completely different.​

Do it, Karen. That could be one more question knocked off the very long list of questions about these guys. Just remember to report back here what happened.

I've got a nice black with a ton of silver leakage from paint to white breeding I'm going to try here soon. Sonoran wants to see what happens with the discoloration in the male's hackles.​

I might have one of the smokies here. I've been watching it thinking it was that light of a blue but it continues to change so I'm not thinking light blue any more.

I am thinking strongly about it .I would report back what comes out of it with pictures of babies and then plan the next step after if all goes well.
Let us know what happen with yours .It isn't going to hurt anything to at least try it out and it could answer some questions we all have.I don't like inbreeding but could take it to next level and breed offspring back to parent just to see the outcome.I would do maybe 12 chicks not many I know but it's just to find out what happens with the breeding.Then if all is well outbreed again. If it doesn't look good though it may not go that far,no sense in wasting time and then there would be the problem of what to do with the chicks

Easy to check out. This smokey is Dominant (express also in single doses) and not in incomplete dominant as Blue is.

Here are two pullets and a roo that are from paint breedings that I am thinking of breeding .

Roo ..has start of comb .from a distance he appears pullet

I will pick best from offspring and breed back to paint.
I really would like some opinions on this.
The birds are of good type ,good feet,very nice silkies .What I am trying for is to better the paint by using good stock with both having the paint gene.Any thoughts?Pros or cons welcome.My feelings don't hurt easy so please be honest if you think I am wrong or you think the birds I want to use are wrong and won't produce what I want.

I just bought three baby paints from Bren's line of paints. I couldn't quite bring myself to buy a solid black or solid white from the paint lines, but she says they nearly always carry the paint gene and produce at least some paints. I'd think you'd be safe breeding these birds to each other, and they're nice birds. I'm brand new to paints though--yesterday, so only know what I'm told and have read. But Bren knows what she's doing!
