Hi all,

I’ve noticed over the past few weeks that the color of the combs on my Wyandotte hens has lightened by a couple of shades. Can this happen from time to time, or is it cause for concern? The last few weeks have been quite warm and we are approaching Summer, could this have an effect? Aside from that they seem quite cheery, and egg production has not changed appreciably.

Many thanks in advance,

Paul

In my experience molting can happen any time. I've had girls molt in the summer too.

Pinking usually happens to my girls when egg production is about to drop and they are either going to molt or go broody. Are they perhaps hanging out in the nest boxes longer or trying to hide eggs?

As a matter of fact, they have been hanging out in the nesting boxes longer than usual the last week or so. Initially they would be in and out in half an hour, and now they can sometimes stay there for three or four
