Pallet Coop - The Beginning

Pretty amazing build....best 'pallet' coop I've ever seen.

Try some thread tape on your leaky nipple if it' leaking around the threads.

Thank you! All of the siding is slats from pallets. And the wall frames are almost all completely 2x4 from pallets the rest from an old shed we dismantled. Most of the hardware came from the shed as well. The nipples are not threaded. They "snap" around the pvc pipe. We used a plumbers glue (not sure what it's called but the same used in house plumbing) where the nipples snap on and around the edges. Four out of five sealed up perfectly but the one still leaks at the seal. It is basically glued on there permanently now so we keep adding glue hoping it will do the trick.

Lol my brother in law keeps threatening to call OSHA. But what can I say? I am a tomboy, spent my childhood barefoot. And it is much easier to climb without shoes

Has been a few weeks since I last posted, but have had a very busy month. The chicks have been in the coop for a few weeks now. On top of finishing the coop, two of my kids had birthdays and we took a well needed vacation :)

Inside, roosting bars with poop board and ramp.

Chicks using the water system.

Checking out the food.

Checking out the roosting bars.

A favorite treat.

Pics of the run to come soon, I haven't finished sorting through all of them.

Wow! You've done a lot more work on the place...great! And is that PDZ I see in the roosting trays?? YAY!!

One thing though...your avatar/signature block thingie doesn't say what part of the country you live in, and I'm wondering about all the 'gaps' between your wall boards. If it gets cold in the winter you're going to have an awful lot of drafts going on....just thinkin' !!

Yes it is PDZ :)

I filled in the gaps with a mixture of sawdust and wood glue. It worked ok but shrank in some areas as it dried. I am in South east PA so we do have some cold winters. It isn't an issue now of course but I will seal it up before winter. We were given some wood grain vinyl to cover the floor. Since I have the blackjack on the floor I am not too concerned but I may use it anyway and use the leftovers to cover the walls, at least around the roosting bars.
