Yeah besides being free with slot of elbow grease, that's a big reason I went with pallet wood. So strongThat's going to be one sturdy coop! My pallet coop has taken sustained 60 mph wind, a butt ton of snow and every critter imaginable has tried to break in and the coop is absolutely fine. That pallet wood is no joke!![]()
I never manage to pull pallets apart because of the nails. I always split the wood! You would not believe how much study has gone into making pallet nails resistant to pulling out of the runner. There has even been a university study to analyze the angle of the spiral flutes and the depth of the flutes to make them harder to pull out. Yes I used to work in a nail factory...

Thanks! I had planned on it but I kind of like the natural color. You also would only be able to see the nest box side from the road or house so to paint it, for me anyway, doesnt do much good. We'll see what the wife thinks. I want to treat some of the plywood I used to seal it up. Everything else is either pressure treated lumber or pallet boards which are treated. I figure I'll have to some of those boards every so often anyway. This coop is very good. You have used everything to hand repurposed all the materials and built a strong and sturdy coop. Are you going to paint it or treat it? I think the natural wood colour looks nice and blends nicely into the woods. Great job!
