Pallet made Coop

So last week my Rhode Island Red babies turned 8wks old. Along side my dad, we built a coop out of pallets, and the walls were made of 4 large pallets. We left a few boards on the inside of the coop because we never thought any of them would try to roost there. I mean these boards are too close to the wall, but tonight I found two of them up on one of the board. Only one of them use the roost my dad and I put up. I don't get it.... What the two are doing; doesn't look comfortable to me.

I'm getting ready to build a pallet coop myself and was wondering about those inside boards. Now I know they may try to use them. I wouldn't worry about it except it would make cleaning difficult.

Mine were facing the wall oddly enough. Lol! Still I wasn't expecting to find them up there.

I'm willing to bet the boards are higher up than the roost bars you installed? Chickens aren't always about comfort..instinct often tell them to go higher if possible.

Actually the board is just a little bit lower. I told my dad that the roost should be 24 inches up, but the temporary roost is 38 inches. I thought it might be too high, so I finally measured it the other day.

These are my first chicka babies, so I'm surprised at almost everything.
