I would consider keeping them intact to build with. You could use several as walls, perhaps bracing them with 2x4's. Then make a roof out of plywood or even a tarp. Perhaps even a nicer crate would work for the roof if you put tar paper over it.

I have used them to build the walls for a goat shelter and they work great.

The only downside is that some wind does go through them.

My last coop was constructed almost entirely from pallets and recycled 4x4s. The only thing I bought new was the plywood for the roof deck and roll roofing.

yeah was thinking maybe putting some tin on a few of the pallets to protect against the wind ,maybe even a better idea to brace the pallets up first like u said then applying the tin thanks for the info

OK so the deal is, when you are making a coop, you don't want ANY of the ventilation holes to be larger than 1/2 inch due to weasels and rats, which eat chickens.

Also make sure the ventilation is up high and not blowing right on the chickens as they roost, or they will be cold. 1/2 inch hardware cloth is best. Chicken wire will not keep out predators.

OK I found the one I liked but the guy deleted all his pics.
