I have the same experience, the buckets of water stay clean and you can see the birds drinking. Easy to fill with a hose from the outside of the run. I have two buckets that I space out and refill every few days and nary a poo on them. Not many feathers either. They don't even get on them
I have water bowls all over their free range area. They occasionally stand or walk thru them but rarely poop there. They get fresh water every 2-3 days anyway. More often in summer and winter.Have you got them trained not to poo in the water buckets?
Yes, I tried to clarify the post and just muddled it. She sprayed the fonts. She has ideas. Now I wonder if she brought the can of spray back into our kitchen. Hmmmm.
Might lead to more chicks around the place....I think I'd be frightened if I was sprayed with oil, too.
It seems to have broke them of the habit...or maybe they are getting too big now.OK, to keep the chickens off of our (their) galvanized poultry font, my chickspouse sprayed them with (the fonts) cooking spray (Pam). They were frightened, because they know the last time they encounter that spray will be in the frying pan....
I made her stop.
