Pampas grass

I have a patch of this invasive weed in my front yard, and after cutting it down and finding the center is hollow I am thinking it is rather old. I have been trying to kill it off but nothing seems to work. I've tried Spectracide, RoundUp and one other full spectrum weed and grass killer. Despite repeated spraying it keeps growing regardless of the poisons I have been spreading on it. I seriously think it's laughing at me.

Short of standing over it during the full moon and repeatedly chanting "Crucio!", does anyone know of an effective way to get rid of this bush? It is right at the entrance of our driveway so I'm not concerned if the area remains ungrowable for a while.

P.S. We live inside the city limits, so burning is NOT an option.

Pampas grass is noxious and it slices into your hands when trying to deal with it. I had it in California and just hated it, so I sympathize.

Pampas grass is similar to the yucca I'm now trying to get rid of in certain spots. It, too, has dangerous stabbing properties. What I recommend is cutting the pampas grass down to soil level and mixing two ounce of Roundup with two ounces of water in a spray bottle, immediately spray all of the newly exposed plant stems. This will get into most of the root system without the necessity of plant photosynthesis.

Keep an eye on it for regrowth at the perimeter, and perform the same cut and treat method. This is guaranteed to kill the plant and its ever expanding root system.

Thanks, I'll try that. My trimmer had little trouble hacking down most of it, I think it can cut into the stubble a bit further.

OK, got it trimmed down almost to a stump (s far down as my trimmer would cut) then poured on the 1:1 water / herbicide mix. That was five days ago, and so far no green has reappeared (knock, knock!).

I think you're right. It's been almost two weeks now with no signs of recovery. Thanks for the Hard Kill method. I'll have to remember that one.



Now I just need to get rid of the stump in a town that won't let me burn it....
