I have one of those 2 tiered ferret cages that you can separate into two different cages the top on has 5 or 6 in it it’s about 6-7 square feet a cage. In the bottom I have probably 5 but it’s bigger because I have a second cage attached to the side that they can go in and out of so it’s around 9-10 sq feet the. I also have a brooder with around 22 right now going to keep 3-4 it’s a tote brooder but I have two totes attached to each other so it’s double the size. . I’m hoping to upgrade soon I have plans for a three tier setup that I’m going to build two around 20 sq feet cages for eggs and three around 9 sq feet cages for breeding.Woah! That's a lot.

I will try to remember and get pics tomorrowI have one of those 2 tiered ferret cages that you can separate into two different cages the top on has 5 or 6 in it it’s about 6-7 square feet a cage. Sounds confusing, lol! Seems like a lot of space though!I have one of those 2 tiered ferret cages that you can separate into two different cages the top on has 5 or 6 in it it’s about 6-7 square feet a cage. they will be around 6 feet long 2-3 feet wide and 2 to 2 1/2 feet tall as natural as possible with plants and hiding spaces each cage except for the breeding ones will be individually built so they can stack and unstick however you want they will have big doors so you can access the whole cage and will be covered in chicken wire (because it’s cheaper they will have complete hardware cloth once they are no longer in a predator proof area and by then I will probably be building them a aviary (once we end up getting a house) the actual building of the cages I’m still figuring out but I do have some really rough designs sketched out and in my head. They will also have a completely custom feeding and watering system the biggest problem is so far the estimated cost for this project is around $400-$500Sounds confusing, lol! How will you build the new setups you're planning on?
Wow! Sounds very fun to build.they will be around 6 feet long 2-3 feet wide and 2 to 2 1/2 feet tall as natural as possible with plants and hiding spaces each cage except for the breeding ones will be individually built so they can stack and unstick however you want they will have big doors so you can access the whole cage and will be covered in chicken wire (because it’s cheaper they will have complete hardware cloth once they are no longer in a predator proof area and by then I will probably be building them a aviary (once we end up getting a house) the actual building of the cages I’m still figuring out but I do have some really rough designs sketched out and in my head. Yes as it won’t be seeing much rain I will see if the untreated wood is cheaper but if I want it quality and to last a long time I need to build it right the first time so I might just save up and hopefully get a job soon and buy the good stuff but it might not work out so I’m still working out the fine details I’m also planning on maybe starting to selling chicks and maybe even adult birds and hatching eggs sometime soon as a small source of income.Wow! Sounds very fun to build.
But that's quite expensive! Will you try to cut back on the cost?
Treated wood is definitely more expensive. I would go with regular wood and just get some good outdoor paint to put on it. I also think treated wood is more wonky and warped.Yes as it won’t be seeing much rain I will see if the untreated wood is cheaper but if I want it quality and to last a long time I need to build it right the first time so I might just save up and hopefully get a job soon and buy the good stuff but it might not work out so I’m still working out the fine details
Very good idea! I would do that.I’m also planning on maybe starting to selling chicks and maybe even adult birds and hatching eggs sometime soon as a small source of income.
Sadly I live in the middle of a city with tons of apartments the only real houses near me that aren’t tiny with like no backyard are the mansions on the beach but I doubt anyone there is tearing stuff down. We heard that some Lowe’s and Home Depot’s have scrap wood piles where you can take wood for free none of the 4 near us have one I have also been looking for pallets no luck there either also no luck anywhere on our local CraigslistMaybe you could find some free wood somewhere someone doesn't want.
Practically my whole chicken coop is made out of wood from torn down sheds and such, we really didn't buy much wood for it!
