Hi! I’ve got one sick duck and have been to vets three times this week for treatment. He has emerald green skinny poops (and NO they arent from grass) Yesterday, Booby the duck was able to see an avian/reptile vet who took his xray (no fecal samples or gram stain though...odd) and saw that only his GI tract was inflamed. She then said its probable he has enteritis, but unclesr whether it is Bacterial, Parasitic, or viral. if its the former two, its treatable. He is on antibiotics: 1ml of sulfamethtrimeth 48mg/ml twice a day; and he had one 0.3mL dose of Panacur 100mg/mL oral suspension yesterday, as did the rest of my flock.

HERE IS MY QUESTION
Doesnt Panacur take more than one dose to eliminate parasites? She kept insisting poultry only take one single dose and if needed they take another a month later... thing is, Booby doesnt really have a month left at this rate so I can’t really afford for him to be underdosed

I think her reasoning for the single dose was founded in FDA guidelines. she was very open about all these meds she’d like to prescribe but couldnt since ducks are technically “food birds” even though we would never eat Booby and he doesnt lay eggs so.... no food to be had in this bird. I understand she doesnt want to lose her license. In the same vein, I dont want to lose my bird, so i turn to you all, wisened bord keepers of BYC: What would you do? How would you treat a possible parasitic infection when the vet prescribes a single dose instead of 3-5 day treatment?

Also: Booby is ~3.5lbs. It fluctuates because he isn’t eating well due to his illness, yet another reason i want him to get the most complete treatment I can

also, I respect this vet and know she knows her stuff, but given what I’ve read from studies and merck it seems that a single dose of panacur isn’t effective? But, this was also given orally by syringe instead of in water so maybe that changes things
