Panda & Pal in The New Brooder Today

Moved Miss Panda and her blue banty Cochin pal to a quickly-made plastic brooder in the bsmt. Got a couple of clearer pics of them this morning. Panda is my Barred Rock x Blue Ameraucana miracle chick who is two days old now. Blue baby is her hastily bought friend. When I get a handle on that baby's sex, I'll name it, too, unless I can think of a good unisex name for it before that.

Awwww, they're sure sweet! And how amazing is it that it hatched?! Truly a miracle chick.

So where do you live, by the way, that you can just run out and buy a chick? Our feed stores have chicks around Easter and that's it. No more until next year.

Oh, BTW your grandchick's girlfriends arrived today. Sixteen should keep a few boys happy.

And is it just me, or are there "splash" flags going up here....

You mean is Panda's new friend a splash? I believe he/she is blue. The light washes out the color alot. It looks a soft light blue. If she turns out splash, I'll be just as thrilled.
Christine, the local feedstore, at least one of them, gets chicks almost every week all year except for Nov and Dec. She probably gets in excess of 5000 chicks during the entire year. She gets the first shipment of the year about the third week of January.
