Panic Buying

Some of the comments were funny... like they were a great soft and fluffy toilet paper replacement! :lau

But people are SO misinformed. I ended shaking my head.

And the one who suggested that "chickens carry salmonella"...

Well, uhm yes they CAN but ONLY if they are infected. My flock does NOT carry salmonella... and nor do many. That's WHY I raise my own birds.. after a huge salmonella egg recall back around 2010. ;)

Them folks are late to the party. :plbb (friendly poke at those JUST buying chickens now)

Once this panic has calmed down we’re going to see a huge wave of buyers remorse birds needs to find new flocks. probably right about the time everyone goes back to work
Kind of sad! I saw a chicken coop for sale in our Walmart, which is the first time I've ever noticed any sold in-store.

Im surprised they even had anything in stock. Chicken supplies of all varieties are hard to find right now.

In retrospect, I didn't know what I was in for when I was a new chicken owner last fall, but at least BYC came to the rescue! (And my dad, who built a coop much safer than anything sold in the stores) I'm at least glad all of the new chicken owners have this wonderful resource, and hopefully it will help them rise to the challenge and keep their birdies safe and happy!

I have gone to the 4 different feed stores in the last 6 weeks when I've run out of things. Every single time, including this past Saturday, they had chickens, turkeys, ducks, and plenty of supplies.

Now, finding a specific food or item has been trickier, which is why I had to go to diferent stores, but that's supply chain slowdowns not panic buying.

I'm sure overpopulated and very rural areas could be thinking there's a shortage, but there's not, it seems very localized

Don't get me wrong, people are idiots and panic buying is occurring. I just think it's being overblown and applied to everything which is inacccurate and misinfirmation.
