So i took out my turner and laid out the eggs on paper towel, but somehow water from the little "premeasured" trays at the bottom (Hovabator) soaked through them.....now I ahve a wet paper towel. I took the eggs off but tucked the paper towel to one side. I figured it could help with humidity. But I was wondering, how can I keep the towel dry if its just going to soak up the water in the trays? Or should i jsut let the chicks hatch on the wire mesh provided by Hovabator. Will they be OK without paper towel?

In theory yes they should be OK providing the mesh is relatively fine. The reason why paper towel is sometimes placed into an incubator is to stop the chicks slipping around on a smooth surface, as is found in some plastic incubators, as this can lead to splayed leg. I have incubated eggs both with and without using a rowel and the chicks were fine.

Hope this helps :)

I bought a large roll of grippy shelf liner (the type that is more like mesh) from a big box home improvement store. I put it on top of the incubator grid and when all are hatched and moved to brooder, I just roll it up and toss it out.

Wet paper towel can possibly rip or get moldy, so I don’t think it would be good to keep it inside the incubator.

Is a little strip of cardboard wrapped around the eggs so they stay up right bad to or should I wrap that cabinet fabric around them? The rubber stuff, sorry I'm newer at this!
