Hi. I have a newer chicken and think she should be laying by now. But she is not. This morning I saw this in her stool. What is it???? And will it effect my other girls? And how do I fix it??
How is this chicken behaving? Does she have a good appetite? Is she active or lethargic? Does she run around acting curious or does she hang out by herself away from the flock with her head in a corner and tail held low and flat?
Also, we could get a better look at that poop if you would repost it selecting the "full size image".
She is behaving very normal. She has the same appetite as the other girls. She doesn’t go off by herself- she hangs with the flock.
I put apple cider vinegar in the water this morning and collected the poop. I am going to bring to a vet. Also when I was collecting, I think I noticed tiny tiny tiny whitish worms- but not positive. I will keep enryinr posted what vet says
I would get some Corid and treat her for possible coccidiosis, because of the blood in the poo. She is new to your flock. There are more than 9 strains of coccidia that affect only chickens. They tend to build up a tolerance over time, but she may not be immune to that strain in your flock.
Also, could you show more pictures of her poops? There does look to be some thin worms in the poop, probably roundworms. When you said possible tiny worms, I thought it might be tapes, but more pics would help. Or get a fecal float performed by your vet. They should be able to diagnose any coccidiosis or worms. Vets frequently use sulfa antibiotics (Albon, Sulfadimethoxine, SMP-TMZ) rather than Corid (amprollium) to treat coccidiosis.
For most worms Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer are food to use. Dosage depends on what worms are found. Tapeworms require other wormers containing praziquantel.
I ran to the feed store and all they had was Wazine. I just put in the water. They were NO help there at all . I will take the poop to vet on my way to work today.
