Parasites?

Thanks
One more started Friday and is still alive, the Albazen is not here yet. She sits around puffed up with her eyes closed, and tries to keep up with the flock. I picked her up last night and she is so, so thin. I don't hear that noise that I heard with the others. I had respiratory infection in some that I culled about two years ago. I don't think that is it. However I could be wrong. I have not given antibotics as I was concerned about too much medication. I am concerned that using more wormer on her as weak as she is, is not going to be a good thing. Every day and morning I expect her to be gone.

You are not going to believe this! I don't hardly believe it. I decided last night, in the middle of the night, if she was still alive this morning I would give her some antibotic.
I get up this morning and get it ready, I go out to let them out and I start looking for her. I can't find her, I count heads and they are all there. She is running around fine like the rest. I could hardly tell which one it was. I couldn't catch the one that I thought it might be. Threw up my hands and went to work. I come home tonight and the Valbazen is here. Everyone is acting fine, I gave every one of them some this evening.
I guess all's well that ends well. The Valbazen should take care of any parasites if I understand correctly. I think that I will reworm them in the fall.
Any input?
Jean

I do agree it sounds like trichomonaisis, http://www.pet-informed-veterinary-advice-online.com/trichomonas.html.

We just had one of our hens diagnosed with it, which probably means all of them will need to be treated. We took a feces sample to the vet and they found Roundworms as well as trich (canker). Our course of action was to get them all started on Mitronidazol, as well as an antibiotic as well as a pro-biotic. Not sure if the sickest hen will make it through the night but all I can suggest is you take a feces sample or even a swab sample to your vet. It took 1 day and we had the results. Total cost of the test $39 at our vet.

The symptoms we noticed was some gagging motions, shaking of the head, gurgling sounds. No signs of visual canker in mouth or anything. They were all eating just fine and running around until I noticed another one making that coughing gurgling sound. I wish I would have read the symptoms better and I wish I would have checked for worms before. We just did not SEE any worms in their feces at all and everything looked normal until the end when the hen showed signs of sulfur/ rust colored diarrhea then again mixed with regular poo.

Good luck

Ha, so glad to hear that. I had just replied to your thread but I guess things seem good

When you re-worm them you should always use a different wormer so the parasites don't become immune to the medicine which is very common. I can't think of what you else you can use right now.

I'm so glad everyone is doing much better.
