My one chicken perches on my shoulder every time I go out to the coop. Is it a dominance thing, or is she just my buddy?

20 week old EE.

So cute! Yeah I have 1 that likes to do that too, then the other girls see her and want to copy-it’s hard getting chores done with 5 hens on your back haha. They are over a year old now and they still do it. They also like to come on my lap if I’m in the yard on a chair. Chickens are more social than I ever knew. They also like to sit on my head and hat in winter!

She's definitely your best bud. My Maybelline (also an EE) is like that, too. Lucky you to have such a sweet and beautiful feathered friend :)

I’m so glad! I tell my boyfriend all the time that Ana is my favorite chicken and loves me, but he made me doubt myself by saying he thinks it’s a dominance thing.

One of my Barred Rocks tried, but decided it wasn’t fun. :lau

Instinct, not 'love'.
They like to get as high as possible.
It can be a dominance thing too.
IMO it's not a great habit to allow.
It's kinda cute when they are little.... but as they get bigger not so cute.
With their sharp talons and beaks near your face...
..."You could put your eye out with that thing!".
