Pahhhhhh... I'm looking at this second gen and third gen stock and I'm scrapping the lot. Size IS better. Lay is excellent. But that darn second gen Roo threw nothing in pullets that isn't SHAFTED!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I could just explode. He had no shafting, his momma had no shafting...

But darn if he didn't throw it in EVERY pullet hatched. I've been waiting on mature feathering and HOPING once I saw it in the first one. NOPE. Lineage suicide - they're all maturing in shafted, even the best pencilled ones.

His three cockerals that I've kept - are stunning, huge gorgeous... now Meat birds.

I won't do the dual line thing, I WON'T. GRRRRRRRR.

Fine, I'll start over again in Fall/Spring.... At least I DO have a source for a start for show stock then.

I could just spit. Genetics... ugh.

I'm new here.. but through out my reading.. I see some breeds / types should not be shown until after their first molt.. Grasping at straws for you and just wanna say.. Maybe things will be right after molt.. LOL.. I'm a dog breeder and understand the not getting what you expect you should after a bunch of planning. Good luck..

Oh how disappointing for you, I know how much you were looking forward to working with these. Now you know why good ones are so hard to find.

Sorry for your bad luck but not surprised since they were out of Ideal birds. Try small hatcheries like Privette or Meyers. There is a breeder of heritage out in CO I think. Breeder is listed on ALBC. Better luck on next batch.

I am not a quitter... and I won't quit on these. Cyn's right - I know Square ONE well. Hello, Square One.

Eventually I'll get the start I want - I just won't proceed from DQ'd stock. I can recognize a wrong turn early enough not to beat my head against a wall in ignorance for a year or two in misery.

I can play with the Dels in the interim. They're here and they've got a decent start.

Halo I'll still be adding BBS this fall regardless, I miss my other blue hen too much.
