Hello friends. We have 2 about 4 1/2 month old Partridge Silkie birds. We know that one of them laid an egg for the first time today, but we don't know which one. We are trying to determine if we have a rooster and a hen or two hens. They do not crow, but they open their mouths and stretch their necks constantly like our white Silkie roosters used to do.
Any guesses? Muffin is the grey-ish bird and Puddin is the larger brown-ish bird. (The names are a result of letting the kids name them.)
So far, they are house birds. The other birds tend to pull out their fur/feathers when we take them to the outdoor coop, and if we put them outside in the fenced yard by themselves, they tend to lay down on their sides in the sun and play dead until we bring them back in. But they will perch on our arms like parrots and love to walk around the sunroom.

Please let me know if you think they are male or female. Thanks! 20170613_160952[1].jpg 20170615_173831[1].jpg 20170615_173950[1].jpg Pudding 061517.jpg

So Puddin (the darker one) lays eggs regularly. However, Muffin (the lighter one) does not lay eggs, does not crow, and loves to peck others. How old are Silkies when you can actually tell the difference for certain? They are 8 1/2 months old now and haven't changed much in size or coloring.

Thanks!
