Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Hey Pennie,
As promised here are some pic's of my Parti's from Congress. I wish you were there!!!

This is was my alternate due to my Parti Cockrel was cut and scabbed so I did not enter him. Last minute I grabbed this brassy gal b/c she is sweet and I Figured why not? She got 1st and Reserve Variety for Partridge silkies!!!

This is a pullet I have not shown yet. She did great and better than the one I would have thought would do better. But, every judges taste is different I guess. I’m not going to complain b/c 2nd out of I believe 8 entries was awesome!!!

This is my little Parti Pullet that did great at the NEBC show in November she won 2nt and RV but, did not place at Congress. I was a bit bummed.

And this is an early Birthday Present I bought from Gilda and her husband. I love this guy soooo much I had to have him!!!!

Sorry I did not get pictures of more but I got so carried away with talked to all new people I've never met, people I know and do not get to see much, and chatting with some really good breeders. Next time I promise to do better on getting you more pictures but, I will say this is the most amount of Partridges I've seen in a long time entered in a show in New England!

I've got news for you girlfriend, that so called "brassy" girl is more to standard than the others!!!!!! That is the shade and a little bit lighter yet that I have won Res.Ch.FL with. 2 good size shows and two big wins lets me know what color to aim for. I have some with the darker heads and they never do as well. LOVE THOSE RED HEADS!!!!!
GREAT JOB!!!! That boy is gorgeous and I am SOoooooooo glad that you had so much fun!!!!
HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!!!!!

Thanks Pennie, I just thinkg she's way too brassy and compared to the others in the show but, I guess I need to rethink things. Honestly I find every judge to be different so who knows sometimes. I did have a great time and hopefully I will be going to Sussex County Poultry Show in NJ this upcoming Spring. There I'll have to break out the big girls! hahahahhaaa just kidding

Almost all judges will look first at type, and if the bird falls within the standards for the variety, type will take precedence over shade of colouring. Now if they are equal in all aspects of type, judges will usually choose the one whose colour most closely matches their idea of perfection, and in some cases it is lighter, in others darker. Many strive for a medium depth of colour.
Now if one bird has significantly better quality of penciling, that can make more of a difference than shade. WIth non-silkied birds, one can be very precise in determining penciling quality; with a silkied bird, one can only determine that penciling is or is not present in all the places it should be.

Also, I think the pullet who took RV has the best colouring. Partridge is supposed to be bright and colourful. But the one who did not place looks to have super type; maybe she is a bit small?
