Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Pics
I have been praying for a broody. I love them and haven't had 1 in a long time. She gave me a lot of beautiful babies before she had had enough. Maybe going broody was her way of escaping the constant torment of the boys. Next year I will have quite a few more partridge girls than I did this year. Poor Hentoo deserves a vacation. A good long one. Her babies are just fabulous. There was only 2 bad ones in the bunch. 1 had 4 toes on 1 foot and the other little guy had everything wrong with him that could possibly go wrong with a chicken. I think it was my incubator. I had a lot of trouble with it for about a month. I was lucky to hatch anything. But the first hatch were all very SQ babies. They will all be at the Wisconsin Nationals and Crossroads. Well, actually I sold 2, but they are going to be shown in the junior class at the WI. Nat. and I don't know if they will be going to Crossroads or not.

I am so glad that you finally got a broody Pennie but I can not share in the joy of having broody girls lol....
Mine seem to stay broody all the time and it just drives me nuts! I told them that is what I have a bator for and they just need to be laying but they just wont listen!!

Pennie I share your excitement I have only had two broodies so far my girl now is sitting on 8 showgirl eggs. If these babies hatch it will be my 1st showgirl hatch this year. I hatched some last year but only kept two a roo and young pullet. A raccoon killed the the father roo and both the showgirl babies I kept last year I was so heartbroken I lost them all. This year I got back one of the roo's I sold from mine and bred him to one of my girls and hatching some more babies so I am super excited!

This completely not silkie but as silkie owners I think you ladies will steer me well. My kids are showing our partridge hen and roo in fairs. They would each like something else to show. So I have been recommended Cochins. Which we have 5 chicks. But Cochins will show against the silkies. Bantam feather foot in fairs. Sooooo. What else would be small enough and tame enough for my daughter to show in her wheelchair. Remember she is almost 8 but only 31 lbs.... Then the next problem will be finding a breeder close enough for a trip

Oh that's been a consideration. But I wondered how hearty they are. In KY can they be in an outside coop in winter???
