Should not get that colouring from a black bred to a lavender. Obviously, either it is not from a black X lavender, or a lot of genes were hidden and came out in the wash. I would definitely not use the bird for lavender breeding. Bat Cave gives a good description of what the colour is. The red is very difficult to breed out, so my suggestion is to put him on yard duty eating bugs, not in the breeding pens.

Your cockerel looks like some I've gotten from black/lav splits too. I know they say you should get black, but I've hatched very few that are solid black. The cockerels usually have leakage in their hackles and hens are often the "silver partridge" color this cockerel is showing, with or without the red leakage. I don't know if it's coming from the black or the lav parent, but perhaps both. My guess is that a lot of lavs are carrying hidden color genes because of their early crosses to white.

Cute baby!

I'd breed her to porcelain or lav although it depends on how much more you want to dilute the color. Breeding my porcelains to lavs has washed out the color a good deal so I'm happier with the porcelain to porcelain breedings. You can also breed to buff/lav split. Very pretty hen!

She is beautiful. Could she be used to get Salmon?

Here's a couple of my partridge girls I showed at the western nationals in April:

This beautiful pullet took BV - she is sweet as pie too:)

This pullet took RV at the same show

Keep those photos coming - love to see all the variations on partridge out there!

It's not a very good picture, could you get another one?

I have a hen that looks almost exactly like that - she is from partridge x porcelain breeding - almost a cinnamon color with penciling.

I am going to have to out and get some pics of my little ones. They are about 5 - 7 wks. old now.

Thank you! I am very new to these colors and silkies so forgive me with my questions!

First should I make a new post elsewhere because this is a partridge thread and second, is she a good example of porcelain? If not, any suggestions on what should be better? Here I thought she was a mutt!
