Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Pics
At this point in the season, I do not envy you at all!!! I'm tired of them. All of the sleepless nights brooding my chicks myself!!!

There are 4 eggs still under the 1 hen due the 9th. and the 12th. and I do not care if they hatch. I have a dozen in a box sitting 3 ft. away from me as we speak/type and if I don't see another chick - that's fine for now. Next November will be another story.

I had another chick die overnight and I am not sure why. Seemed fine last night. I wonder if the heat could be playing a part in it?
Me too! I am done with the chicks for the time being and I have alot to go yet!!! I am running out of new mom space!

Oh NO!! I am so sorry. You may want to put a fan in there to at least move the air around. I find that it helps to have a deep bedding of shavings so they can dig down into the cooler stuff underneath.
Have they been stressed in any way? The heat is a bit stresser by itself. Have you noticed any runny or bloody poop?
Have you ever had a problem with Coccidiosis? That can kill a chicken overnight and it doesn't show for 7 or 8 days before you see the signs. Oh lord, I'm sure I'm sounding like the voice of doom.

Anybody else have any ideas?

It was a newly hatched chick from yesterday. No, I never had a problem with cocci. It is cooler in the barn than what it is outside and she was in a wire cage with mom so air could flow but maybe they aren't getting out from under mom if they get too warm??? It just seems I didn't have any chicks die previously but now since the weather is warmer, I lost these 2 in 2 days???

I was just going to post the same suggestion... except I was thinking 'Rocquelle'

That is how I pronounce Rachelle's name just a different spelling, I really like the name Rita so I think I will go with that

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Check there butt and see if it could be pasty butt. I had to take them away from the mama's because they did not know how to fix pasty but and it can kill very quickly.

It very well could be that she's keeping them too warm. It's so hard to tell. I'm sad for you.

I have found the very best remedy for pasty butt. I found it on one of the poultry sites and it has been 100%. Of course our soil is really not much more than sand with a little dirt thrown in.
Anyway, clean up their butts then just go out and dig up some grass leaving the roots and dirt on there. They tend to eat the dirt and roots and it takes care of all pasty butt.

Hi You all...I take a nite off BYC and wake up to 4 pages of beautiful birds and great information...I must locate that horse fat supplement...how much Amplify do you add to your mix ...I am glad I have retired for a couple months from hatching....I have too many I have an 8 stall heated horse barn and the chickens have 1/2 of the feed room well maybe 3/4 a newly built 10x 12 condo hen room...a stall... and a rented stall from the horse for the summer and an outdoor coop...yikes its amazing how many birds you can end up having after you become addicted....I lost 6 chicks this season in broody incidents so now i just incubate if I really want the little guys....I have a redneck black too hes not a southerner yet...Pennie how are the twins doing.....

Thanks! I am going down now to check all of their little butts but I don't recall seeing any problems last night. That is good to know about the dirt and will give it a try if I need too!!!
