Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

I've read that here a few times and kept my mouth shut. No. Lavender has nothing to do with blue partridge.

One copy of lavender would have no effect on the black pigment. Two copies of lavender would dilute both black and red pigment and create a lavendar partridge. Pretty, but not at all the same thing.

I am not doubting your word on this at all but when I talked to George M over the phone he told me to make a true blue partridge
you need to use lav. More info please

Catching up on this thread........

throwing my own experience in there

My lavender rooster also carried the partridge gene. You could tell by his hackle feathers. And from test breedings.

I put him with a blue hen, and I did get some blue partridge out of it. HOWEVER my blue partridge did not look blue until abour 6-8 months old. They were just very dark, then started lightning up/

Oh Pennie i didnt see your note on how many lovelies do I have....my DEAR HUSBAND when my son and I went to a horse show thought he needed to count all of the chicken barons flock,,which is mostly silkies with about 70 other birds ..nankins.....ameraucanas and chanteclers...totalled around 240...yikes that means we have about 170 silkies....hopefully some people will be looking for some nice blues and splashes at the fall shows....so I think we have definitely gone chicken crazee around here...I still have one more wall to build coops on thank goodness...i build condos and its really funny because the birds like being on the 2 and 3 floors as they are able to see you better...they all are such pets ...we hope to have lots of good stock to show this fall and so far its looking positive....

I need to see pics of these condos please Chikincrazee. I am thinking of adding more pens here...need to for sure and am looking for ideas.

Here is the dark partridge I hatched 6 weeks ago. I think it is a girl...what do you think. I love this one too pieces and AK thinking of names.

Is it the angle/lighting, or does it look grey/silver partridge? And it has been my experience (though extremely limited) when you see that rainbow effect over the body, it turns out to be a cockerel. Do you see what I mean by rainbow? There are like circles of color around its whole body. Every one of mine that have had that has been a cockerel. But believe me, I could be wrong.

I'm telling her you said she was ugly! You know she is going to give you the stink eye don't you? I love me some showgirls

The silkie girl is probably my absolute favorite of any bird I have. There is just something about her that I like.

Though I would never own a showgirl, I have to admit they are so photogenic. They make me laugh everytime I see a picture of 1 turning her head to look straight at the camera. They are just a riot.

This is the mother of my two blue partridge girls..... She cracks me up, from the front she looks like grandpa munster! ( I don't have a face shot of her though, and she has been broody for awhile now, and she looks ragged)!!

I had a lady come to pick up some chicks, and she said their feathers will grow back on their necks right?

She was shocked to find out that they are born that way and stay that way.

Poor lady must have been a little embarrassed. I have a question. I just noticed that on my signature line my website isn't highlighted like yours. What do I have to do?

It is grey/silver and the markings are not in circles really they are all over except the tail and head. As a chick I thought she was a blue partridge and you helped correct me on that...along with Sonoran. There is no sign at all of a comb or wattles...the hatchmate has a defined comb though. So I dunno.

I had 6 boys that I thought were girls until they were almost 4 months old. No combs or wattles. It very well could be a little girl. Darn Silkies - they just love to keep you guessing!!!
