Well, here's an update. I had put 2 chicks in with Jazz and Stout. Jazz quickly accepted the little partridge baby that had been hatched the day before. The second one, the little black guy had been hatched a few days prior, Jazz didn't care for because it was too active. She wanted them to stay under her. Last night I was putting everyone away and went to check on their progress and it was just the sweetest thing. Jazz and Stout were both huddled up together all flattened out and when I opened the cage door, this little tiny head poked out from between them. So far so good.
I moved the black to brooder #2.
Ever since my last back surgery in March my sleep schedule is really screwed up. I wake up around 3 am. and am up til about 2 pm.. Then I lay down and get up around 6 and am up til about 9 or 10.
I really like getting up at 3. I get my housework done and am out in the barn by 6. I have always been a morning person.
This morning I got up around 2:30 and decided I would go back to bed. Well, I got up around 5:30 and it feels like my whole day is shot! I can't even find the energy to get dressed and it's almost 7!! I'm hoping this 3rd. cup of coffee will kick in SOON.
And what does this have to do with partridge silkies? I guess it means that they are all going to give me the stink eye because I haven't let them out yet.
Good Morning the sun is out and only about our 12th day of sun! We will get to a whole 79 today. Here is one of y blue partridge kids, one of 6. Great foot feathering.

Hi - could you please explain about the eyes and the top of the tail? Are they supposed to be level? Thanks!!
Study the picture, and that little girl is about as right on as you can get. So, the answer is yes. They are supposed to be in an "S" shape with the head held back. Someone else could probably describe it better. Take a Silkie in your 1 hand with her chest sitting on your hand and her legs between your fingers (little finger and 3rd. and thumb and 1st.) Take your other hand and put it to her face to make her head pull back. Study that. But good Silkies will stand like that naturally a great deal of the time. Oh lordy, I hope I explained that so you can understand.
The boys are different. They have a more upright look. Like I'm the man in charge type of thing with his chest stuck way out.
