Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

I was thinking that was you, but I read so much on here I was afraid once I spoke that I might have mis-spoke. That is terrible!!! That was the really nice partridge pair you drove like 3 hours to get right? Have you started any more eggs from them? My partridge girls lay the darkest eggs of all my silkies, even darker than my black.

I recently saw a picture of a soft colored partridge. Almost a pastel color, it was very pretty - I liked it a lot. Your Don/Dawn reminds me of that color. They change so much with their coloring though.

That white is a typey little one, that's for sure. I don't have any pure whites right now. I had a white chick pop out of nowhere one day, but lost it to predators.

Lucy could almost work with a red project. I know a lot of folks on here are always asking about "reds". Is she and the boy still pretty young? I bet they will get darker as they get older too. I think I can see some really dark patches on both of them.

Both sizzles are very cute!

Really? I thought it was. I think I even told someone that just recently. Oh, definitely! So, still a partridge though?

No, the Partridge girl has laid maybe one or two eggs since then.. and nothing. No hatching going on - but I did take two eggs out of that pen to put under a broody - marked them with who I though laid them (one from Poppi the SQ beardless Buff x Jazz and one from Minkie x Jazz) just for fun - but only one survived and its marked Poppi.. We will see - I put it under a nicer broody.

That's why I kept Dawn/Don - that color is so pretty. I am so hoping for a girl - but those red wings....

My cage is pretty secure, he/she isn't going to get et - but I don't want White... I hope I can find a good home that will show him - he is a real looker and he isn't much over 3 months old!

Hmm.. yes - both of them are three months or so - but they are full brother/sister so I wouldn't suggest crossing them. Peggy is also full sibling - all three are out of Poppi x Owl. Red, you say? ... Hmmmm.....

I was reading on CSU that it is not sex linked - but that doesn't mean it doesn't appear on the birds differently depending on sex. I do know the red shows up in the wings on the boys, it may also show up in the tail and chest. I gotta read more on the Ar and the other red.. But Red Silkies ... hmm.. gotta go see what the genetics are in that - and if it can come from Buff... I had somebody ask about them on Craig's List the other day... I bet Owl carries that red.

Yes - Goggles is still most definitely a Partridge - really neat to see that black/brown/black barring on each feather. So similar to the Partridge Wyandotte Bantam chick - except Goggles also has a bit of gold on the neck missing on the Partridge Chick.

Peggy also has the correct Partridge barring in her wings and tail - overlaid by the Buff. I did have one smooth feathered Sizzle girl which lets me know Owl does carry the correct Partridge - because that one looked exactly like the Partridge Wyandotte Bantam chick, with the exception of the crest and feathered face - and puffy tail...

Pretty Partridge Smooth Feathered Sizzle - I am keeping her

Well I managed to sell off everybody except the Buff/Red boy and Dawn/Don. I keep hoping for Dawn because if that is a girl that would be a perfect base for Blue Partridge!

Oh, and I think Minkie heard me talking about her - I am now getting one to two eggs every day from that coop - and only two girls in there, the Buff and Minkie. YAY!

Only problem is.. I don't hatch in the Summertime and I will be leaving for two weeks at the end of this month - so no hatching going on until next spring. It is just nice to know that she CAN produce.. when she wants to!

I just started a new batch of eggs yesterday. I've had a lull in the egg laying here too. It's because of these ridiculously high temperatures we are having here and I don't blame them!!! If you are going to be gone for two weeks you might come back to broody hens sitting on eggs!

Knowing that bunch - very probably! I am going to move the Buff Girl back over to the beardless side, that way "If" I get any broodies they will be setting on eggs I want them to hatch...

Ha! Ha! Ha! Good idea ChickNMamma!!!

Here's my dark partridge boy prancing across the chicken yard. Look at those furry feet - and the next one shows his pretty "boo tay".

Such a pretty Boo Tay!

Here's Jazz - watching over the mixed bag juvies. EEs, AMs, Isbar x EE cross, BV, Sumatra and Welsummer.

And Goggles - still not sure on sex - but such a cutie! Born 5/18/2013 - so almost 12 weeks old.

Not happy - doesn't know where s/he is and there is a dog!

Boy Jazz is really N I C E!!! How old is he?

Your Goggles is colored a lot like mine that I kept vacillating about. I have decided now that she is a she. I was trying to find a shot like yours and I know I have one somewhere, but of course when I want it I can't find it. She had that "boy" copper color that really had me guessing.

You have a very pretty girl there - how old is yours? Its that red/copper that keeps me guessing on Goggles, the beak (straightish), comb (none), legs (smaller), etc all say girl.. its just that all over red. Hopefully because it is all over its a girl - I seem to remember the boys get it mostly in the wings... altho Jaz has his pretty evenly across his back. However, not much on the underside - and Goggles has it on the undersides too! My for sure boy got a big comb at 7 weeks - and wattles (he is beardless). So..

for another girl for Jaz. This is the only egg that hatched from the batch I got from Brown Chicka Brown Cow - I love her rooster too and if Goggles is a boy he is STILL staying!

I was told Jaz (aka Jasper) was about a year old. He is the male in the breeding pair I got that originated from Hattrick Silkies. I think he is nice too.. and he is usually mild mannered - unless I am catching one of the other birds and they are squacking - then he "comes to the rescue" and I have to tell him to back off.. He does back off though. I was taking pictures of the other birds and he came out and posed for me, so I thought I would share. He stands like that a LOT! Very "King of All I Survey" stance.

This is my partridge silkie hen she is about 2-3 months old and loves to be pet from her neck down to the tail. She hates being left outside and waits by the door to be let in.

Mellow's waiting for a neck to tail rub.

Mellow with my new baby chicks ( they aren't hers she'll peck at them if they come to close).
