Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Dang, those are soooo cute! Love the first picture with the three generations and the Lavender little. I guess if you were wanting to create your own Self Blue Silkies you have a good candidate there. Cross her/him to a black Silkie, cross the splits back to her/him until you get the silkied feathers again with the lavender gene. Hopefully the pea comb and the walnut comb make the walnut comb again and you get the 5 toes, blue ears, etc back..

Do the Silkie cross hens lay a blue egg?

That was my original plan about 4 years ago when I wanted lavender silkies so badly. Now I have a CatDance lavender cockeral and porcelain pullet and don't have to wait for generations to get to the type I want.

So far my silkie crosses all lay white or near white eggs - not even a HINT of blue!!!!

It's close to birchen, but looks golden rather than pure silver.
I wouldn't consider any of the feathers silver. They vary from a soft butter color to a rich gold (about 4 different shades). The hackle feathers have a black "v" middle with lighter gold "v" edge to them (lacing?). I love the long black beard, cheeks, and crest and the black and green tail contrast to all the shades of gold.

I want little BLUE eggs!

Glad you found a good Self Blue to start your Self Blue pen. Might as well get used to calling it that.. its what the SOP calls it.. even though I find it more confusing because of Blue vs.Self Blue genetics (which are completely different). Only the gene is called lavender. Ameraucana people are still trying to get the name Lavender through the APA, but the APA won't do it. Self Blue has been used for that coloration for years - it looks like we may be stuck with it.

Are you going to do the Self Blue Creme (porcelean) too? Another one with two names used interchangeably to further confusion. I think its pretty, and I suspect that's what Partridge x Self Blue would give also, perhaps with the pattern gene though. Maybe that's why they used Buffs - to keep away from the pattern gene?

Oh, I think Sonoran means he is genetically Golden (one copy Gold/one copy Silver). Did he look silvery before he got the gold feathers?

I do call it self blue and self blue cream. I just say lavender and porcelain a lot on here because of the young ones. I guess I should use the proper names or at least put it in parentheses so it isn't even more confusing.

That's why I was wondering if you had ever seen a lavender (self blue) partridge. I picture a pastel colored partridge with the lavender (self blue) petticoat and cushion. I really would like to have some of those!!!

I love the porcelain (self blue cream) color a lot also.

Too bad I can't find a PURPLE one!!!!

IF YOU FIND ONE I WANT ONE!

Oh - and you have the genetics right there to create them - Self Blue roo x Partridge Hens. Cross, keep all the girls, cross back, keep the light girls, etc... I will expect you to be selling hatching eggs from your lines sometime next year

so I can get some too!

Ok so self blue means lavander? I taught it meant both parents were blue...and if you cross lavander with a partridge it will give...porcelaine??? Is that it?

And ogher subjdct heres another pix of my partridge and the red???? On the wings. Also a pic of his comb. Maybe you will be able to confirm that "he" is a boy!

I am adding Eddie Travers and HatTrick into my lines also....so maybe so. I think my little chicks have the potential to be great. If they aren't it isn't because their Momma hasn't been trying!!!!

Yeah, I think I will work on that. I like the more unusual colors and I already have a head start on some of them now.

Sure you can have some eggs. I used to sell my lavender (self blue) bantam Ameraucana eggs on eBay a few years ago.

Yes, self blue and lavender are the same.

No, if you cross lavender (self blue) with buff you will get first generation (F1) porcelain (self blue cream). It is a project color that a lot of folks are working on right now including myself.

He does look like a boy to me. I have had several with that coloring and they have all been boys.

Thanks you confirm what I taught almost from the beginning...but not because of the coloring but because of the crest...but maybe it was begginer's luck...

Well if I can find a buff...and a lavander...maybe I will be able to breed my self blue cream (gosh I like this word ;-))

And tell me..probably that the subject already had been discuss but to have lavander what colour I need?
