Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

So if I have some Partridge colored Hens,... not necessarily a silkie, can I get a Silkie roo and end up with
Pattridge Silkies????,...

What you would have are cross bred silkies. Partridge is only a colour. You would be better off looking for breeders in your area.

We narrowly avoided a tragedy today! It rained last night and this morning youngest son let the Silkie and her babies out in the yard, as usual. But he didn't think to check about the water containers for some of the planters filling completely up with water (and I was down with a bad migraine and barely able to breath, much less think to remind him) and when he went out to check later, he found the two Partridge Silkie chicks barely with their heads afloat. He rushed them in the house and we dried them off, first with a towel, and then the hair dryer, then we put them under the heat lamp for a bit, just for good measure. They are now back out with the Silkie hen and the rest of her chicks and son made sure there were no containers of water this time. The chicks are running around like normal, and I'm hoping there will be no ill effects of their swim. And I'm so very thankful that he found them in time.

Lucky save. I've lost 3x chicks to drowning and it's very hard to forgive yourself for such a silly mistake. My mommas and chicks are now kept separate to the flock and have self waterer's that they couldn't possibly drown in.

I have one Partridge Silkie hen that I hatched from Catdance mixed eggs a year and a half ago. This is what she looked like at day old.

She is the chick on the left.

I didn't put her in any breeding pen until a month ago. The only colored Silkie I had left from that first Catdance hatch was a Porcelain boy. She was the only hen he would mate with. He just didn't like any of my White Silkie hens. This is my hen when she was younger.


This is her last summer.

She hatched out eight chicks. Two look Partridge. Six look dark Porcelain.



These four are a sampling of this mating. Do I call this a Partridge/Porcelain split, a Project Pen, or both?
