Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

This little guy has lots of blue undercarriage.

She's got a lovely head color. And a nice moderate crest.

I've inadvertently developed the overly large crests in some of my birds. Not something I selected for. Seems to be a side effect of my selection for friendliness. The matriarch of those birds had a rather small crest but all of her offspring had huge ones.

It was really too dark when I took these. The blue partridge looks absolutely horrible with molt so no picture of her. Just a few random hens. I thought I'd eliminated the black heads several years ago but a pullet and cockerel both hatched with it last year.

Sorry they are a bit dark. It was just at sunset I could take a few

Yes some of my splash are getting ridiculously large crests, not sure how it is over there, but in Aus if the judge can’t see the birds eyes they are disqualified. I’m not sure that it is friendliness as much as it is they can’t see you and walk straight into you. :lau
Non bearded are much better suited to free range as they are better equipped to hide from predators. But of course breeders such as myself find themselves governed by supply and demand and the fad atm is bearded , large crested fluffy birds.

I ponytail some of the girls occasionally. Pumice stalks me more when she can see me better.

It was just an oops with the friendly ones having big crests for me. The hen that originated it is super friendly and is from a different source than my others. All her offspring had the huge crests and it just spiraled from there.

The boys can see me just fine and rush over as soon as they see me coming. That's what I've been trying to get through the whole flock. It does make trying to get into the pens hard with them underfoot.
