Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Pics
This is my first time with Silkies and my first is a Partridge silkie Mister Sammie..he is a cutie and love his color. He is pure Pet quality but he is a good start for getting to know the breed and where to go from here for showing..but I love my Sammie! This is him about 3 weeks ago and his top knot is full of pin feathers and it is not as fluffy as before..

He is beautiful! It's not the best pic, but he looks to be a stunner. ( Hi! from CNY, I read this thread trying to learn all I can, but couldn't resist commenting.)

That's no problem at all. Everyone is welcome to join us to talk partridge Silkies. Occassionally we get off topic, but it's all in fun.

Very cute. Getting some nice under fluff going.

How old is she? I'm say she because her color seems pretty muted by looking at the picture & her crest seems to be starting to explode.

Pennie like your new redneck silkie...I have one black that just grew some red in his hackles and he is lovely so Im glad I can keep him in the partridge program ...my one young silkie cockerel is mostly red so i guess he will be pet quality????...my other 3 older boys are really nice with one having lots of black in his chest of course they are still filling out and in the heat stand directly in front of their fan all fluffed out...look like giant balls of fluff...Chris

Why don't you post pictures of all of them and then you could get some different opinions. The one that is mostly red may be considered blue partridge, or whatever. Without anyone seeing a picture, there is no way of knowing.

Keeping blacks with red hackles can produce the very dark chested partridge that is to standard. It also helps in keeping the body fluff dark. You just have to be careful and not add too many different lines in your birds. Find 2 or 3 and work with that so you know who is who and what is what. Keep records of everything.
