Funny, I was reading an article about stem cells being made out of fat cells, that could be used by the owner of said cells or donated. Hmm, the thought of buying one of those big, portable neon signs with "DONOR, DONOR, DONOR OF FAT CELLS HERE!" came to my mind's eye rather quickly!
Talk about a pound of flesh? Wonder what a pound of fat goes for??? Wow! I could buy some Buff Laced Brahmas finally!
Ok so I am new to silkies and am working on getting my partridge pen all set. I have a very nice partridge roo and just a couple of partridge hens. So I am grappling with whether or not to keep a couple of hens that are not the best. Crests are good, toe spacing and number Ok, type is good to Ok, but one has a wry tail, one has a single comb, and one has a couple of white tips on a couple of her toes and toenails. Now if I keep these girls will I be making a mistake? As I get better girls I have been selling the not as nice girls. If I grow out and keep some of these hens chicks and sell the single combed ones will I be introducing something that I will regret later down the line? By the end of next year I do not see myself having these hens anymore as I am growing up some nice young ones now. Its just this first year with extablishing a breeding pen.
What does everyone think?

Welcome. The single comb girl ...do not breed her. Keep her as a pet if you wish but no breeding. The toes are an issue...I would not breed her if she were mine. The wry tail I have no experience with not am I sure how genetically it transfers or not.

Don't breed the wry tail either, it WILL pass on! I've seen it here in my other breed, and in other's birds. If there is something you don't like about a bird, then go with your gut and don't pass it on. Faults tend to pass on easier it seems, than quality!

Thank you Cetawin and Debbi. Like I said, I have been looking at them and comtemplating everything and really did'nt know what to do. Now I do, sell on Craigs List this weekend!!
Thanks!
I got a new Partridge silkie rooster lastnight, well actually he is out of mine. My stepbrother and Stepsister got 5 chicks from me last fall. They ended up getting three rooster and two hens. I have been trying to hatch out dark roosters like the three they got but haven't had any luck because I had other roosters along with this guy's father since late last fall until the end of April and I think they were doing most of the breeding. I don't like the lighter roosters. I like the dark ones. This guy isn't a year old yet. He isn't in good body condition since he was with two other roosters. He will be going into his own cage this week and will be conditioned for the shows this fall. I really like him alot. What do you all think? Be honest
