Several times lat night when I went to see my chicks, I noticed that one of them was laying down, head on the ground, eyes closed. It alarmed me and when I went to retrieve the poor thing it jumped up and started eating and drinking just fine......I thought I would keep an eye on that one.....then I noticed a bunch of them doing that and I thought maybe its too hot (95) and I raised the lamp a bit....I've started to think this is normal.....I've never seen little chicks just pass out like that...is it normal for them to lay down like that? I worried most of the night that they were too hot....

Its normal - and when your use to it - its funny. They run around like crazies then just pass out where ever. When i first got chicks I thought for sure i had killed them! lol.

Enjoy them while theyre still fuzzy butts!

Mine scared me to heck and back when a couple of them did that. I only had six in the brooder and had already had one die - "failure to thrive" - and thought, oh NO, now what!?!?!?

But they just fall asleep *snaps fingers* just like that!

What a relief!!!! I was just looking at everyone else's chick pics and saw a few laying down like that.....Now that I know they're okay....It is hysterical. It's like they just pass out wherever they are, whatever they are doing....run, peck, run, drink, CLUNK......

I like the ones that sleep like a tri-pod, head and two feet on the ground, body up in the air.

We had a broiler that kept falling asleep in the waterer and waking himself up when his head got wet. The boys beleived he was trying to marinade himself and called him Teriyaki.

Love the fuzzy butts, very addicting.
