So, it looks like it pretty much depends on the individual bird- i have a possible roo, and being new to chickens was trying to decide how to deal with one....LOL! And do you eat the eggs if they are fertile?

What a pretty HEN! I love moderns. They are very friendly. If Mojo crows that still doesnt rule her out as a hen, but that bird looks all hen to me.

I would say you could hardly go wrong with an Orpington, cochin, brahma, Favorelle,or modern game. But there is always the exception to the rule.

I personally would have a cochin or orpington roo if I wanted just one.

All three of my standard Cornish roos have been very gentle. The ones I've hatched from them as well.

My Speckled Sussex Roo is my sweetheart. Big and friendly and beautiful. He loves to eat from you hand. He isn't great to just pick up, but once you do he will sit on your lap and talk to you. He crows when I ask him and knocks on my front door for bread treats. LOL Overall he is spoiled, but never have I had an issue with him. His coop mate on the other hand has had some issues. He is a black Orp and had to learn his manners. My Speckled Sussex has helped me with that as well. He doesn't like him getting after me or the kids and will go after him also. The black Orp has gotten much better to say the least. LOL

Mind you he is only a hatchery roo, but his temperment makes up for anything else.

I have two serama roosters and they are both just as friendly as my hens. The first day i got the younger one he pecked at me but he hasn't pecked at me since. The older one, who is a little bigger, has never pecked at me or anything. I just make sure i handle them all every day to try to keep them pleasant, if thats possible.
