Pasty baby butt

Thanks for the info, I will definitely look up amprolium! I've got 14 chickens total and he is one of my new 3wk old chicks and all but him are spritely, so I'm hopeful that it's not Coccidiosis.

Here's one picture that I managed to get before tidying him up. I've since run warm water over his bum with a few strokes from a cotton ball, then dried him part way using a blow-dryer with a deffuser using a mix of mid to low heat, and adding some Vasoline half way and once again when he was dry and I skipped the Epsom salt soak because he seemed a little too raw. I was relieved to see that he was super stoked for food and water after, and now he is splayed out under the heat lamp.

Weeew! Just checked on my little guy and found a solidish white glob of stool with some normal coloredness at the end!! :D

I give all my incubator chicks 1:1 active culture yogurt: chick food once a day for the first three days. Never have had a reoccurance of pasty butt. Lost only one chick in the past five years. Also give ACV.

I had a chick die with pasty but this spring, because the brooder was overwarm for them. My fault! I fixed the heat lamp, cleaned off everyone's behinds, and had no more issues. No meds, no vinegar, just adjusting the brooder so the cool end was cooler, and cleaning buts.

Update: My babies are almost 4 weeks now; the 4 girls are doing great and are super social. Mr. baby roo is doing a lot better. Overall, the vita/electrolytes and probiotics seem to be helping. I still need to clean him up but his stool has regained a healthy color, though I would like to see it get a little more texture. The brooder is between 80-85 and the heat lamp is clear to one side, which is where he seems to like to spend his time laying down with his wings held slightly open. He started showing signs of crooked toe but I beefed up his vitamin intake and his little toes seem to be regaining strength, but I'm still looking into making little booties for him.

I double checked my order from mypetchicken and it looks like they all shipped from Meyer Hatchery, which was slightly disappointing due to all the negative reviews I've read... primarily regarding their Black Sumatra chicks. I've read several reviews where their Black Sumatra chicks either died shortly upon arrival, or came riddled with genetic defects. At this point, I'm just glad I've been able to keep my little guy alive this long. The jury is still out because his health seems to be generally shaky, but I'm still holding on to hope.
